據ESPN專家史坦（Marc Stein）指出，湖人正在狂熱的追求國王的考辛斯（DeMarcus Cousins），試圖醞釀一筆三方交易，得到這個24歲的內線天才。
在很多人看來，考辛斯是現在NBA最有天賦的中鋒，他在2014-15賽季為國王出戰59場季賽，平均34.1分鐘，24.1分12.7籃板3.6助攻1.7火鍋1.5助攻。
湖人的資本卻不夠，他們只有有限的籌碼來交易考辛斯，兩名新僇榜眼籤。湖人未來不能直接交易選秀籤，他必須將新秀交易出去。這是因為聯盟規定球隊不能連續兩季交易首輪選秀權，而湖人2016年的首輪籤已經給了76人。
訊息源稱，湖人、國王和魔術已經就有關考辛斯的三方交易進行過探索性的討論，這三支隊伍擁有選秀前六順位的籤號，通過交易考辛斯到湖人，魔術的年輕中鋒武切維奇則填補考辛斯在國王的位置，魔術則得到湖人選的選秀榜眼。
不過，國王則一直堅持考辛斯是非賣品。球隊新任的決策者迪瓦茨（Vlade Divac）認為這種事是「根本不可能發生的」。
